How many hours a week does your sales team spend looking up company data, building contact lists, sending the same follow-up email over and over and typing into the CRM what was discussed in a meeting? It's necessary work, but it isn't selling.
AI can already handle a good part of it. The risk is delegating without judgment: generic messages by the hundreds, unchecked data and tools that put the sales rep's LinkedIn account at risk.
In this guide you'll find an inventory of 12 tasks, how to prospect and use LinkedIn with AI without breaking its rules, how to get those leads into the CRM and what to measure.
What sales task automation is (and what it isn't)
Sales task automation is the use of software, rules and artificial intelligence to carry out the repetitive work of the sales function (researching accounts, logging activities, drafting messages, updating the CRM and scheduling follow-ups) so sales reps can spend their time talking with customers, negotiating and closing.
It combines CRM rules (assigning leads, follow-up reminders), covered in the Odoo CRM guide, with AI, which reads, summarizes, drafts and prioritizes. The big picture is in what workflow automation is.
It isn't sending 500 identical messages or letting a bot negotiate or promise prices on your behalf.
Inventory: 12 sales tasks and how much of each AI can do
| Task | What AI does | What the sales rep decides | Risk | Learn more |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Research an account | Summarizes its website and news | Whether it fits your ideal customer | Outdated data | Below |
| 2. Enrich contacts | Fills in job title, industry and company size | Which data to keep | Uncontrolled personal data | Law 21.719 |
| 3. Prioritize whom to contact | Ranks by profile and signals | Whom to call today | Going only after the easy ones | Lead management |
| 4. Draft the first message | Draft with account context | Tone, offer and sending | Spam | Below |
| 5. LinkedIn activity | Post ideas and Sales Navigator summaries | What to post and whom to connect with | Prohibited tools | Below |
| 6. Log the lead | Creates the contact and opportunity with its source | Whether the lead is valid | Duplicates | Customer history |
| 7. Qualify inbound leads | Suggests a score | Whether it becomes an opportunity | Discarding good leads | Lead management |
| 8. Answer initial inquiries | Answers FAQs and books meetings | When to take over the conversation | Made-up answers | AI customer service |
| 9. Meeting notes | Summarizes and creates activities | What was agreed | Recording without notice | Sales meetings |
| 10. Quoting | Suggests line items and the pricelist | Discounts and terms | Wrong price | What is CPQ |
| 11. Follow-ups | Spots stalled opportunities and drafts the reminder | When to push or close | Pushing too hard | Odoo CRM |
| 12. Pipeline reporting | Summarizes the week | The forecast | Incomplete data | Sales team |
The pattern repeats: AI prepares and the sales rep decides.
AI prospecting: research accounts, enrich data and personalize without spamming
AI prospecting is the use of language models and data tools to find companies that fit your ideal customer, research their context and prepare a personalized first touch. AI speeds up the research and the draft; the sales rep still decides whom to contact and what to offer.
A simple process:
- Write down your ideal customer profile: industry, size, region, who decides and what problem you solve. Without it, AI just produces volume.
- Build the list from sources you're allowed to use: lost customers, unclosed quotes, referrals, trade shows and licensed databases. Odoo CRM's lead generation feature filters companies by country, industry and number of employees, and charges one IAP (in-app purchase) credit per lead and another per contact (Odoo documentation, checked in October 2026).
- Research each account with AI and verify anything you plan to mention.
- Draft messages that mention something specific about the account, not a template with the name swapped in.
- Review, send and log the contact in the CRM with its source.
With personal data, keep only what you need, record where it came from and respect anyone who asks not to be contacted. What Chilean law requires is covered in our guide to Law 21.719, Chile's personal data protection law.
LinkedIn for B2B sales: Sales Navigator, social selling and what not to automate
LinkedIn for sales is the use of the professional network to identify the decision-makers at your target accounts, understand their context and build a relationship before and during the sale, through your own profile, content and direct messages. In B2B it's usually complemented by Sales Navigator, LinkedIn's paid prospecting tool.
LinkedIn Sales Navigator
Sales Navigator adds advanced search, lead recommendations, InMail and three AI features included in its Core, Advanced and Advanced Plus plans (the last one is quote-based): Account IQ and Lead IQ, which summarize accounts and people, and Message Assist, which drafts messages (LinkedIn, checked in October 2026). It integrates with Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Oracle, among others; Odoo isn't one of its partners, so don't expect a native sync.
Social selling
Social selling is selling through relationships: posting useful content, commenting thoughtfully and talking with prospects instead of sending cold messages. LinkedIn measures it with its Social Selling Index (SSI), which looks at four areas: professional brand, finding the right people, engaging with insights and building relationships. With Odoo 20 and the Social Marketing app in your plan, you can post to your personal LinkedIn account from Odoo.
What not to automate on LinkedIn
The LinkedIn User Agreement, in effect since November 3, 2025, prohibits using software, scripts or extensions to scrape data from the site, including profiles; using bots to add contacts or send messages; and copying or using information from the site without its owner's consent. LinkedIn can restrict, suspend or close the account of anyone who violates it.
- Do: research the company with AI using its website and news, draft messages, send them manually from your own account and use the AI built into Sales Navigator.
- Don't: rely on extensions that send invitations in bulk, automated profile scraping or bots that post comments.
How to get prospecting and LinkedIn leads into the CRM
If a lead isn't in the CRM, nobody follows up on it or measures it. Three rules:
- Record the source (LinkedIn, referral, trade show) so you know which channel actually sells.
- Search before you create, so you don't duplicate companies or people.
- Link each person to their company and schedule the next activity.
If your database is already on Odoo 20, part of this is native: round-robin lead assignment, Discuss call recording with summaries and contact enrichment (release notes). It depends on your plan, and the AI in that version consumes IAP credits.
The CRM & Sales Agent from Kersify creates the lead with its source from the sales rep's emails and meetings, suggests the next step and waits for the rep's approval in the Odoo CRM; if you use a different CRM, we'll assess it with you. If the prospect reaches out on WhatsApp, Vambe comes into play: it's our partner for AI agents connected to the Odoo CRM.
If you use Odoo, Keep Checking lets you know when your database gets messy, with alerts like "Opportunity with no source" or "Duplicate contacts"; build your selection and request a quote with the quote builder.
Human in the loop: what the sales rep always decides
Human in the loop means AI proposes and a person approves before anything reaches the customer or changes important data. In sales, you don't delegate:
- Whom to contact.
- What is promised: price, discount, timeline or scope.
- Whether a lead becomes an opportunity or a deal is marked as lost.
- Which personal data is stored.
A well-designed AI sales agent turns those decisions into approvals. If someone offers you one that does everything on its own, run it through the checklist for choosing an AI automation company.
How to get started and what to measure
- Pick two or three low-risk tasks, such as researching accounts.
- Measure the baseline for two weeks.
- Write down what the sales rep reviews before anything goes out.
- Run a one-month pilot with two or three sales reps.
- Compare and decide whether to scale or adjust.
Measure response time to a new lead, activities logged per rep, leads with a source and company, the reply rate to first messages and lead-to-sale conversion. Inside Odoo, the "Sales One-Pager" dashboard in Keep BI brings all of that progress together.
