Electronic Invoicing in Chile with Odoo (SII): 2026 Guide

Electronic invoicing with Odoo in Chile is one of the reasons more and more companies are choosing this ERP: it issues electronic tax documents (DTEs) that are valid with the SII, Chile's tax authority, directly from the same system where you manage sales, inventory and accounting, with no third-party software and no double data entry.

In this 2026 guide we explain, step by step and without unnecessary jargon, how the Odoo SII integration works, what you need to get started and which types of electronic receipts and invoices you can issue.

Why invoice with Odoo instead of separate software?

In Chile, issuing electronic tax documents is mandatory. The question isn't whether to invoice electronically, but from where. Doing it inside Odoo has concrete advantages:

  • A single data flow: the invoice is created from the sale; you don't retype it. Fewer errors, less time.
  • Automatic accounting: each DTE generates its journal entry and feeds Form F29 (Chile's monthly VAT return) and the tax trial balance.
  • Full traceability: the document status, the SII track ID and the XML backup all live on the same record.
  • Integration with your operation: payment gateways, e-commerce and logistics connected (Transbank, Getnet, Mercado Pago, Fintoc, Shopify, WooCommerce, Multivende, among others).

If you are still evaluating the ERP, we recommend reading what Odoo is and our guide on how to implement Odoo in Chile.

Odoo's Chilean localization: what gets installed

Odoo has an official localization for Chile that activates the modules needed to comply with SII regulations:

Module Function
l10n_cl Base accounting under Chilean regulations
l10n_cl_reports F29 tax report and trial balance
l10n_cl_edi Issuing electronic invoices and receipts
l10n_cl_edi_stock Electronic dispatch guides (requires Inventory)

These modules generate the XML according to the schema defined by the SII, apply the electronic stamp and submit the document for validation.

Requirements for issuing DTEs with Odoo

Before issuing your first document in production, you need three key elements in place:

  1. A valid digital certificate, issued by an SII-accredited provider. It is the electronic signature that validates each DTE.
  2. CAF files (folio authorization codes), downloaded from the SII portal. They authorize the ranges of folios (sequential document numbers) for each document type. You need one CAF for each type of DTE you issue (invoice, receipt, credit note, etc.).
  3. Approved SII certification. All issuing features only become available once your company passes the SII certification test set for market (third-party) invoicing software.

Important: your company takes the certification, not the software. Odoo provides the tool; the SII testing process is managed by the organization (ideally with support from a certified partner).

Not certified yet? With our SII certification service for Odoo through certificaDTE, we handle the full process in 2-3 business days, with plans from 5 UF + VAT (the UF is Chile's inflation-indexed unit of account) and a 100% approval rate.

Types of electronic tax documents in Odoo

Odoo supports the most widely used DTEs in Chile. These are the main SII codes and what they are used for:

Code Document Typical use
33 Electronic invoice B2B sale subject to VAT
34 Electronic exempt invoice Non-taxable or exempt sale
39 Electronic receipt (boleta) Sale to an end consumer
41 Electronic exempt receipt Exempt sale to an end consumer
46 Electronic purchase invoice Purchase with tax withholding
52 Electronic dispatch guide Transfer of goods
56 Electronic debit note Adjustment that increases the amount
61 Electronic credit note Cancellation or return

The electronic receipt in Odoo (code 39) also includes the folio consumption report sent to the SII, which is essential for retail, services and businesses with a high volume of consumer sales.

How issuance works, step by step

When you confirm an invoice or receipt in Odoo, the following happens automatically:

  1. Issuance: Odoo generates the document in XML format according to the SII schema.
  2. Stamping: the electronic stamp is applied using the folio from the corresponding CAF.
  3. Signing and submission: the DTE is signed with the digital certificate and transmitted to the SII.
  4. Acknowledgment: the SII responds with a track ID for follow-up, and the status is set to "pending".
  5. Status update: every night, Odoo automatically checks whether the document was accepted, rejected or accepted with objections, and records the result in the document's history.

This automation is what sets it apart from running your operation on spreadsheets. If you are moving off spreadsheets, see how to migrate from Excel to an ERP.

Environments: certification, production and demo

Odoo lets you configure three environments in the electronic invoicing settings:

  • SII – Test: for completing the certification test set with test CAFs.
  • SII – Production: for live operations, once you are certified.
  • SII – Demo Mode: accepts documents without sending them to the SII (useful for internal testing and training).

Working in certification and demo mode first spares you nasty surprises: you test your entire operation before issuing a single document with tax validity.

Best practices for a smooth implementation

  • Load your CAFs before you run out of folios. If they run out, you won't be able to issue documents until you load a new one.
  • Keep your digital certificate valid. An expired certificate halts all invoicing.
  • Validate recipient data (RUT tax ID, registered line of business, address): it is the most common cause of rejections and objections.
  • Assign owners to monitor DTE statuses so you can react quickly to any rejection.

A well-executed implementation also connects invoicing to your Business Intelligence so you can see sales, VAT and margins in real time, and to custom AI agents for repetitive tasks such as reconciliation or collections follow-up.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Odoo certified by the SII to issue electronic invoices in Chile?

Odoo has the official Chilean localization, which generates DTEs (electronic tax documents) in the XML format required by the SII, Chile's tax authority. Certification, however, is a process your company completes, not the software: you must pass the SII test set in the certification environment before moving to production. A partner like KPB Solutions supports that process end to end so you pass without retries.

What do I need to start electronic invoicing with Odoo?

Three essentials: a valid digital certificate issued by an SII-accredited provider, the CAF files (folio authorization codes) downloaded from the SII portal for each document type, and the Chilean localization modules installed in Odoo (l10n_cl, l10n_cl_edi and, if you issue dispatch guides, l10n_cl_edi_stock). Once that is configured and your certification is approved, you can issue documents in production.

Which electronic tax documents can I issue with Odoo?

Odoo supports the most widely used DTEs in Chile: electronic invoice (33), exempt invoice (34), electronic receipt or boleta (39), exempt receipt (41), purchase invoice (46), debit note (56), credit note (61) and electronic dispatch guide (52). Each one requires its own CAF loaded into the system.

Does Odoo issue electronic receipts (boletas), not just invoices?

Yes. Odoo's l10n_cl_edi module generates electronic invoices (code 33) as well as electronic receipts (code 39) and exempt receipts (41), including the folio consumption report sent to the SII. It is ideal for companies that sell directly to end consumers or through retail and e-commerce channels.

How long does it take to implement electronic invoicing in Odoo?

It depends on your certification status and how complex your operation is. If your company is already certified with the SII, going live in Odoo usually takes a few weeks. If you are starting from scratch, you need to add the time it takes to complete the SII test set. A well-planned implementation with a Gold Partner significantly reduces rework.

What happens if the SII rejects a DTE in Odoo?

Odoo automatically checks the status of each DTE (accepted, rejected or accepted with objections) and logs it in the document's chatter along with the SII track ID. If it is rejected, you will see the reason so you can correct it and resend it. Configuring the CAF, the certificate and the recipient's data correctly keeps these rejections to a minimum.
